Cleaning Tips 101

This is a golden rule in the field of housekeeping. It may sound obvious, but this rule can make a big difference in how clean your home can be.

The rule of thumb is to work smarter, not harder. How do we do this? By cleaning each room from top-to-bottom and left-to-right. This ensures that dust sitting in the upper parts of the room falls to the lower parts and no spots are missed.

Cleaning means more than just spraying a surface, then wiping it shortly after. It is important to know the "dwell time" for each product you use in your home. Most cleaners have a dwell time of 3-5 minutes to effectively kill germs.

You'd be surprised how many people damage surfaces in their homes due to not knowing which cleaners to use. Be careful to read the labels of your cleaners to ensure that your cleaners are appropriate for what you need.

It is very important to turn the nozzles for each spray bottle with a household cleaner to "off" after each use. Not doing this has impacted 1 in every 12 children from harmful accidents that can lead to poisoning and hospitalizations. 

Deep cleaning your home at least once every season ensures that all goods and items are being used before they expire; this includes over-the-counter medications, canned goods, and nonperishable items.
